Long expected Magento 2.0 is finally released on November 17th. There are two new products based on this powerful platform are now available: Magento Enterprise Edition 2.0 and Magento Community Edition 2.0.
This platform empowers brands, retailers, and businesses across B2C and B2B industries to quickly and cost-effectively deliver engaging omnichannel shopping experiences. With the superior features compared with the old version, upgrading to Magento 2 is a good choice for your eCommerce store.
How to upgrade?
As you know, we currently have a tool, Magento 2 migration, which has been developed by Magento. Magento 2 migration involves four components: data, extensions, themes, and customizations.
Data: Magento 2 Data Migration Tool can help you efficiently port all of your key product, customer, and order data, store configurations, promotions and more to Magento 2. This paper provides information on the tool and best practices for using it to migrate your data.
Extensions and custom code: Magento is working with the Magento development community on updating extensions. They will be on Magento Connect when Magento 2 becomes generally available. More information on developing extensions for Magento 2 is available in the Magento 2 Extension Developer Guide.
Themes and Customizations: Magento 2 uses several new approaches and technologies that give merchants an unmatched ability to create innovative shopping experiences and scale to new levels. To take advantage of these advances, developers will need to make changes to their themes and customizations. Documentation is available online for creating Magento 2 themes, layouts, and customizations.
Don’t upgrade until 2016
Upgrading to Magento 2.0 is not a quick and easy upgrade. Although, you have Magento 2 migration tool, it is not a perfect tool to move all your Magento site to Magento 2. Besides, you will be continued to support Magento 1 products until 2018 by Magento. Moreover, importing extensions in new version is not yet available.
So, migrating from Magento 1.x to Magento 2.0 in the middle of this month is not good decision as this is the holiday season where your eCommerce Store should be prepared ahead ro sale products. Christmas and New Year is coming soon and upgrading your eCommerce Store will be prone to bugs.
As one of the leading ecommerce platforms available, Magento consistently offer great-quality service and high standards. Therefore, it is certain Magento 2 will follow suit, providing all the developments and support needed to help grow your business.
